Atlantic Hall, the first hotel in "Cape Island" was established in 1791 and located on the beachfront at Jackson Street. Thus began a series of establishments sporting the Atlantic name until the great fire of 1878.
Jackson Street, then called Cape Island Road, was the first and only to bring steamboat travelers to the ocean from the Delaware Bay.
In 1878, A disasterous fire destroyed the entire downtown area, (over 30 acres) including Jackson Street. Due to the Popularity of Cape May, the Street was completely rebuilt from 1879 to the early 1900s with small Hotels and private homes.
Today, The Jackson Streetscape is painstakenly restored, authentic and varied. The Architecture includes the various styles of Victorian and Edwardian periods and still provides the same amenities it has offered over the last 100 years; Fine Accommodations; Fine Food and Shopping.
Visit our Street; Enjoy the private residences, take in the gardens, the gas lights and the stained glass windows. Enjoy the haute cuisine or haute dogs. Stay at one of our fine Bed and Breakfast Inns, Guest Houses, Guest Suites or Apartments, or small Hotels.
