Fire Mountain is located just a few miles outside the village of Highlands, NC on hundreds of acres in the Southern Highlands of western North Carolina, one and one half hours southwest of Asheville

Historical renovation of the Highlands Inn and Kelsey Place Restaurant took place in 1989, and the Inn is now celebrating its 123rd year! The decor throughout the Inn has been researched and restored in the "Country Manner."

This Highlands landmark stood tarnished and abandoned until the fall of 1997 when developers, L. A. Lard III, Randy Baron, Ralph Thomas and Steve, Scott & Stacy Jones, pursued the challenge of bringing this property back to life.

The Main Street Inn has been welcoming guests for over 100 years. It was restored to its original c. 1885 Federal Farmhouse style and luster in 1998 by New York Architect and Designer Christopher E. Dubs. Original hand-hewn beams were exposed, and many original sand-forged windows were saved.

From our 4118 ft. elevation, Mitchell's Lodge & Cottages has been a part of Highlands history for 64 years. For three generations the Mitchell Family has been welcoming guests and has seen Highlands grow from a small mountain town to an exclusive resort.

The Old Creek Lodge is surrounded by six acres of lovely native trees and flowers, and situated on the banks of a tranquil pond graced with a soothing waterfall.

Surrounding a brick courtyard, the Inn is composed of three barn-sided, wooden buildings. Each of our rooms is individually decorated. Brass headboards, eyelet sheets and comforters, designer wall papers, and custom wainscoting have been used throughout.
