Asbury Park
Description and Photos

Years ago, Asbury Park was once the pride of the New Jersey Shore. Today, most of the glitter is long gone and the amusements that made us smile as youngsters are a distant memory. There are food stands and restaurants at Third and Fifth avenues, and restrooms at Asbury and Third avenues. Most of the waterfront remains undeveloped, so the beaches usually are not crowded, and there are lifeguards on duty The city allows fishing from jetties and some shoreline as long as no bathers are present. Free parking is available on Ocean Avenue and east-west streets to Kingsley Street.

The Stone Pony, located on Ocean Avenue hosts rock concerts throughout the year and occasional outdoor concerts in the summer, while the new kid in town is a skate park for for in-line skaters and skateboarders.

Asbury Park City has wide, tree-lined streets and large and impressive Churches. Always been known as an artistic community. The Convention Hall, hosted great names in music such as Glenn Miller and Harry James. In the 1960's the Hall was the only place on the North Jersey shore to hold large rock concerts, with such performers as the Dave Clark Five, The Rolling Stones, Jefferson Airplane,The Who and the Doors. During the 1970's, Bruce Springsteen made numerous references about the City and it's attractions in some of his works. Rehabilitation of the Hall has been taken on in recent years and there is a great interest in trying to resurrect the downtown area and attractions to it's original splendor as the Shore resort our parents and grandparents loved so dearly
