The Borough of Highlands is a small community located on Sandy Hook Bay. The community's most prominent landmark is the Twin Lights, constructed in 1866 to guide commercial and Navy vessels into the bay. The Highlands is still well known for its fishing industry and marinas and is home to a few of the best seafood restaurants you will find anywhere at the shore. Charter fishing boats from the borough and Neighboring Atlantic Highlands will allow the fishermen among us to explore the bounty of the sea to their hearts content.

Once you navigate into the tiny town of the Highlands you will discover a few quiet Bay Beaches located in this quaint peaceful town. Most of the time you will find only locals inhabiting these small stretches of sand with the few waves generated by passing watercraft. Open a Beach blanket and a good book though and you will feel like you are in the Bahamas on a deserted stretch of beach far from the hustle and bustle of the tourist traps.

Parking at all three beaches is limited but the beaches are protected during the Season. Snug Harbor Beach (The largest of the three beaches with about 150 feet of beachfront) has courts for tennis, volleyball and basketball.
