Ocean Grove, a national historic landmark, was begun as a camp meeting retreat by Methodists in 1869 and till this day still retains it's deep relegious roots. One of the Shore's "Dry" towns, It attracts an older Beach crowd and a fair amount of senior citizens. This is not to say that the town doesn't kick up it's heels and jam because one of it's many attractions is The Great Auditorium, built in 1894 which is a huge wooden Victorian structure, seating close to 7000 people and is still used today for Major acts performing rock 'n' roll and other musical acts that attract large Saturday-night crowds to the open-air auditorium.

The boardwalk is wooden and has no concessions on it, (There are refreshment stands on the bathing beaches.) but it provides a beautiful unhampered view of the Atlantic and the most noise you wll hear are the sounds of the seagulls and surf crashing upon the shoreline.

The beach is divided into four sections by jetties, a kayak beach to the north, two bathing beaches in the middle and a surfing beach to the south. No swimming is allowed on the surfing and kayaking beaches. Kayaks can be rented on the north beach. Public restrooms are located at Embury Avenue by the boardwalk.

Beach passes are available on a daily, weekly and seasonal basis, and the bathing beaches are protected. Parking can be at a premium on weekends as the beaches fill to capacity pretty quickly on hot summer days. For the anglers among us, there is also a fishing club in Ocean Grove with a fishing pier where sea bass, blues and fluke are caught.
